What is past life regression therapy (plrt)?

Traumas and issues from our past lives can be reactivated by events in our current lifetime without our conscious awareness. We might react to people and situations in ways that seem counter-productive. The problem maybe actually rooted in dynamics set up in prior lifetimes or past experiences of present life.
Re-experiencing the key events of a past life and reprocessing the impact helps to bring closure to the events of the past. This enables one to move forward more freely in the present. Even if one believes these memories are not true past-life experiences, they function as symbolic stories and are equally as effective in resolving current issues.
Past life regression therapy is based upon the philosophy that we are eternal souls who carry forward learning and experiences from one human lifetime to another. Few people believe that we only live one human lifetime. In this case, the stories coming out by this therapeutic approach serve as wonderful symbolic metaphors for the issues and situations being faced in the present time.

Why should one go through past life regression therapy..?

Most of us have had the experience of meeting someone for the first time, and falling immediately into a comfortable relationship, or visiting a new part of the world, only to find it feeling very familiar to us somehow. It is also noticed that we sometimes develop an unexplained dislike for certain people. Many people suffer from unresolved feelings post a traumatic experience (death, violence, loss etc). Past Life Regression Therapy helps one find reasons behind such feelings and thereby helps finding solutions to problems that are a result of such feelings.
Other uses of Past Life Regression Therapy:
  • Troubling behaviour and attitude patterns that have persisted over time, despite attempts to change
  • Relationship dynamics that seem to have a life of their own (intense attraction/aversion to another person, deep-seated issues that defy resolution)
  • Phobias intense fears, such as fear of heights or fear of water, that seem unconnected to an experience in the current life
  • Some chronic physical ailments, sensations and pains
  • Dominant attitudes or emotions that seem to persist throughout your life

There are some newer areas in which past life therapy is being applied as well, that are quite exciting and rewarding. Rather than going after traumatic or troubling memories, they focus on positive experiences. These areas include:
  • Accessing strengths and accomplishments from prior lifetimes that can be brought forward to increase confidence and effectiveness in the present
  • Re-experiencing a happy, successful lifetime; this can bring a sense of balance and peace when undergoing difficult times, fortifying us to work through our temporary difficulties
  • Clarifying direction and life purpose by viewing ones blueprint for this lifetime
  • Finding prior lifetimes shared with current loved ones, bringing a great sense of reassurance that we are indeed never parted from those we love
  • Accessing the wisdom, peace and guidance that is available from the "Life Between Life State" (spiritual realms between lifetimes) where our higher mind and/or guiding ones can assess our progress and give direction to us for our current lifetime
  • Strengthening the clarity of the spiritual nature of our existence.

How is the therapy conducted..?

In past life regression therapy a person is guided through a state of deep relaxation to the memories of the original activating event. Similar technique can be used to access early childhood memories from the current lifetime that may be underlying present-day problems and issues. By bringing these memories into conscious awareness, we can release or diffuse the energy and emotional blockages that keep us stuck.
Past life regression is based on the theories of reincarnation and Karma. Karma makes us realize that we are all one irrespective of our nationality, religion, race, creed, caste, sex etc. and thereby teaches us oneness.
However, one does not have to believe in either the theory of karmic justice or the theory of reincarnation to gain benefit from the process. As long as you can hold an open mind to the experience, your belief system does not prevent you from being a good subject for this technique.

About reincarnation and karma

Past life regression work goes hand in hand with theories of reincarnation and Karma. There really is nothing to fear from the concept of reincarnation. Today over half the worlds population endorses this belief -- for good reason. There is a great sense of serenity that comes from knowing that the deepest parts of ourselves will always exist, that we are much more that just our current physical bodies, and that we have many opportunities to master human existence and learn the lessons we are here to learn. Though reincarnation has been studied scientifically only during recent times, the possibility that we live many lives has been accepted on faith since ancient times. If one studies the ancient indigenous cultures of Africa, Asia, North America, South America and Australia, one would find ample evidence that reincarnation was one of their core beliefs. It can be seen that evidence of the belief in reincarnation can be found in people of diverse cultures, from different parts of the world and even people from vastly different time periods (modern, medieval, ancient, prehistoric etc.).

Along with reincarnation, the Theory of karma" usually also comes up. Karma is the good old concept of what goes around, comes around. It refers to the continuity of soul experience, the fact that we will reap the consequences of both prior good works and prior unloving deeds. For example, if a lifetime has been spent with very negative, attitudes and actions, then we may have the opportunity to experience this from the other side of the fence in a subsequent life. An individual who commits suicide to escape from perceived difficulties, will undoubtedly have the opportunity to meet similar problems and situations more creatively in another lifetime. Although karma may contribute to the types of situations we may face, we have free-will in each and every moment to choose our response either through love and connection, or through negativity and fear. If we choose the latter, we will have opportunities to learn the lesson again. We are all spiritual beings having a human experience and the dynamics of Karma help us to keep learning and progressing through the actions done by us in each lifetime. Therefore, Karma is neither good nor bad. Karma operates on universal laws, which create total justice. Karma is very impersonal and it applies to everyone without exception at all times. Karma makes us realize that we are all one irrespective of our nationality, religion, race, creed, caste, sex etc. and thereby teaches us oneness. Karma teaches us to take self-responsibility as it makes us feel responsible for our actions in every situation. Karma makes us understand the cause and effect of our actions. Understanding Karma is a major step in our Spiritual Evolution. Nevertheless, one does not have to believe in reincarnation or karmic justice for past life therapy to work. As long as you can hold an open mind to the experience, your belief system does not prevent you from being a good subject for this technique. It does not matter as far as the effectiveness of the technique is concerned.

Few common 'misconceptions' related to the past life regression therapy - FAQs

Is Past Life Therapy a form of hypnosis? Does one lose control of oneself during the process?
During regression, one needs to connect to the deeper states of our sub-conscious mind. This can be achieved through either relaxation of body and mind or through hypnosis. The process used during the Kosmic Journey is Progressive Relaxation which not only helps one go to a deeper level of consciousness but is also effective in healing at various levels.
Also, throughout the process one is completely self controlled. We dont lose self-control during this process.
What if one cannot return from the past memory?
The process seems like a deep sleep state, and we can see images as if we are watching dreams. Our physical body is in a relaxed state. Since the experience is as if one is dreaming, it is not possible to stay in your dreams. As soon as we opens eyes, we are back in the present life.
Will my past memories disturb my present life?
After the therapy, we will feel more relaxed and healed instead of feeling disturbed. Moreover, we always has a higher understanding that whatever we have seen, has no relevance to the present lifetime. This helps us differentiate between the past and present and thus remaining unaffected in the present.
Are the memories influenced by the facilitator? What are the chances that whatever I see is a figment of my imagination?
Imagination is a part of our conscious mind. It is scientifically proven that during the therapy, ones conscious mind is in a state of complete relaxation (sleep) and only our subconscious brain is at work. This part of our brain is completely un-influenced and pure.
